Key takeaways

For most visitors the cheapest good option is the AREX all-stop train: ₩4,750 by transit card from Terminal 1 to Seoul Station (₩5,350 from Terminal 2), about 59–66 minutes. The non-stop AREX Express costs ₩13,000 and takes 43 minutes from T1, limousine buses cost about ₩17,000 and drop you near hotels, and a Seoul international taxi runs ₩70,000–95,000 with tolls included (fares checked 2 Oct 2026).

  • Cheapest: AREX all-stop train, ₩4,750 (T1) or ₩5,350 (T2) to Seoul Station on T-money, about an hour.
  • Fastest by rail: AREX Express, ₩13,000, 43 min from T1 / 51 min from T2, last train from T1 at 22:48.

There are five practical ways from Incheon International Airport into Seoul: the AREX all-stop train, the AREX Express, an airport limousine bus, a late-night bus after the trains stop, and a taxi. For most solo travellers and couples with normal luggage, the all-stop train on a T-money card is the best value at ₩4,750 from Terminal 1 to Seoul Station. The bus wins if it stops outside your hotel; a taxi wins for families with lots of bags or very late arrivals.

Every fare and time below was checked on 2 October 2026 against the airport railroad’s own site, Airport Limousine’s route pages and notices, Incheon Airport’s transport pages and Seoul’s official taxi fare page. For more on getting around once you’re in the city, see the Getting Around hub.

The five options side by side

Incheon Airport → central Seoul, adult fares (checked 2 Oct 2026)

Option Fare Time to Seoul Station Runs Pay with
AREX all-stop train ₩4,750 (T1) / ₩5,350 (T2) on a transit card 59 min (T1) / 66 min (T2) All day; check AREX for first and last trains T-money or single-journey ticket
AREX Express ₩13,000 (child ₩9,500) 43 min (T1) / 51 min (T2), non-stop 05:16–22:40 from T2, 05:24–22:48 from T1 Ticket from counter, machine, website or app
Limousine bus (e.g. 6001) ₩17,000 (child ₩12,000) Depends on traffic Daytime and evening Ticket booth or machine; cash/T-money at T1 on some routes
Late-night bus (N6000, N6002, N6701, N6703) ₩17,000–18,000 Depends on traffic First departures 23:40–00:10, last 04:20–04:50 (T1) Ticket booth, machine or Tmoney GO app
Taxi Meter, or international taxi ₩70,000–95,000 zone fare incl. tolls Depends on traffic 24 hours Card or cash

The airport railroad doesn’t publish a door-to-door time for buses and taxis because traffic decides it, so neither does this table. As a rule of thumb, rail is predictable and road is not, especially on Friday evenings and holiday weekends.

1. AREX all-stop train: the cheapest

The all-stop train (일반열차) is a commuter line run by Airport Railroad (AREX). It leaves from the station under each terminal’s Transportation Center (the same station as the express) and stops at 12 stations between Terminal 2 and Seoul Station.

Fares. You pay by distance. AREX’s fare table, for an adult with a T-money or other transit card:

Gongdeok 4,650 5,250 Lines 5 and 6, Gyeongui–Jungang Line
Seoul Station 4,750 5,350 Lines 1 and 4, KTX

A single-journey card from the station machine costs ₩100 more per ride plus a ₩500 deposit, which you get back from the deposit refund machine at your destination. Children aged 6–12 and youths aged 13–18 get discounts; children under 6 ride free (up to three per adult).

Time. AREX lists 59 minutes from T1 and 66 minutes from T2 to Seoul Station, with some trains taking 2–6 minutes longer.

Why it’s usually the best choice. The all-stop train serves Hongdae, Gongdeok and Gimpo Airport directly, which the express doesn’t. If you’re staying in Mapo, Hongdae or anywhere on Line 2, 5, 6 or 9, you’ll get there sooner on the all-stop train than by going to Seoul Station on the express and doubling back.

Downsides. Seats are not reserved and it is a regular commuter train, so expect standing room in the morning and evening rush if you board at Gimpo Airport or later. There are no dedicated luggage racks like on the express.

2. AREX Express: fastest and only to Seoul Station

The AREX Express (직통열차) runs non-stop between the airport and Seoul Station only. It has assigned seats, luggage space, onboard staff and free Wi-Fi.

  • Fare: ₩13,000 for adults and ₩9,500 for children aged 6–12. AREX lists a “normal fare” of ₩18,500 (T1) and ₩19,100 (T2), but ₩13,000 is the price it actually charges. Some partner sites sell it for less online; AREX notes partner discounts are online-only and can’t be combined.
  • Time: 43 minutes from T1, 51 minutes from T2.
  • Frequency: 26 departures a day in each direction on the current timetable, with gaps of 30–65 minutes. That gap matters: if you just miss one, the all-stop train leaving a few minutes later may still get you there first.
  • First and last trains to Seoul: 05:16 from T2 and 05:24 from T1; the last leaves T2 at 22:40 and T1 at 22:48, arriving at Seoul Station at 23:31.
  • Buying tickets: at the express counters and machines in the B1 Transportation Center at either terminal, on the AREX website or app (up to 2 months ahead), with Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Diners, American Express or UnionPay. Alipay and WeChat Pay are accepted online.

Take the express if your hotel is around Seoul Station, Namdaemun or City Hall, if you’re connecting to a KTX the same day (see how to book KTX tickets), or if a guaranteed seat with a big suitcase is worth ₩8,000 to you.

3. Airport limousine bus: door to (near) your hotel

Limousine buses leave from the bus stops outside Terminal 1 arrivals and from the B1 bus terminal in the Terminal 2 Transportation Center (Incheon Airport’s bus search lists the stop for each route). Their advantage is the route: many stop outside or near major hotels, so you don’t drag luggage through subway transfers.

Airport Limousine’s Seoul routes include:

  • 6001 – Dongdaemun, Myeongdong, Seoul Station, Sinyongsan: ₩17,000 adult, ₩12,000 child
  • 6002 – Cheongnyangni, Dongdaemun, Jongno, Hapjeong
  • 6005 – City Hall, Seodaemun, Hongje, Susaek
  • 6007 – Yeouido (IFC Seoul), Yeongdeungpo, Dangsan
  • 6015 – Myeongdong, Chungjeongno, Gongdeok, Mapo
  • 6016 – Seoul National University of Education, Sadang, Isu, Heukseok

Other operators run further routes; Incheon Airport’s bus search page lists all of them with stops.

How boarding works in 2026

Airport Limousine’s passenger guidelines (notice dated 7 April 2026) set out the rules for the airport → Seoul direction:

  • Ticket holders board first. Buy at the ticket booth or ticket machine.
  • Terminal 1, routes 6001, 6002 and 6015: first come, first served. You can pay with cash, a transit card or a ticket.
  • Terminal 1, other routes: about one minute before departure, the driver may let people pay by transit card or cash if there are seats left.
  • Terminal 2: every route needs a ticket bought before boarding. Don’t plan on tapping T-money at the door.
  • Luggage: two bags per ticket, each under 28 inches and 20 kg (sum of sides 158 cm or less), or one bag over 28 inches. Your carry-on counts. Each extra bag costs ₩8,000.

The ticket is checked to confirm you’re on the right route, not to note your stop, so press the bell before your stop.

4. Late-night buses: after the trains stop

When the last express has left at 22:48, four Seoul-bound late-night buses take over. Incheon Airport’s English late-night bus page (checked 2 October 2026) lists these departures from Terminal 1:

Late-night buses from Incheon Airport T1 to Seoul (checked 2 Oct 2026)

Route Destination Adult / child First / last from T1
N6000 Express Bus Terminal (Gangnam) ₩17,000 / ₩10,000 00:10 / 04:20
N6002 Cheongnyangni ₩18,000 / ₩12,000 00:00 / 04:40
N6701 Dongdaemun Design Plaza ₩18,000 / ₩12,000 23:50 / 04:40
N6703 Gwangnaru Station ₩18,000 / ₩12,000 23:40 / 04:50

Buy tickets at the booth or machine; Incheon Airport also lists the Tmoney GO app for reservations. Terminal 2 departure times differ from T1, so check the airport’s page for your terminal. Older guides mention an N6001 at ₩10,000; that comes from a 2024 notice, and the airport’s current late-night bus page no longer lists that route.

5. Taxi: metered or international taxi

Taxi stands are on the first floor (arrivals) of both terminals. Incheon Airport lists:

  • Terminal 1: general taxis at 5C, 6C and 6D; deluxe at 7C; large (up to 9 seats) at 8C; international taxis at 4C.
  • Terminal 2: Seoul taxis at 7C; deluxe and large at 7D; international taxis at 3C.

Metered fare

A regular Seoul taxi starts at ₩4,800 for the first 1.6 km, then adds ₩100 per 131 m or per 30 seconds in slow traffic. Between 22:00 and 04:00 the meter adds 20% (22:00–23:00 and 02:00–04:00) or 40% (23:00–02:00). Deluxe and large taxis start at ₩7,000 for 3 km, with a 20% night surcharge. Expressway tolls are paid on top of the meter. The meter fare depends on your exact destination and traffic, so ask the driver to use the meter and expect a receipt.

International taxi zone fares

Seoul’s international taxis (외국인관광택시, aimed at foreign visitors) charge a fixed zone fare from the airport, including tolls. Seoul’s official fare page (last modified 3 April 2026):

International taxi: Incheon Airport → Seoul zone fares (tolls included)

Zone Seoul districts Mid-size Large
A Gangseo ₩70,000 ₩100,000
B Yangcheon, Guro, Yeongdeungpo, Mapo, Eunpyeong, Seodaemun ₩75,000 ₩110,000
C Geumcheon, Gwanak, Dongjak, Yongsan, Jung, Jongno ₩85,000 ₩120,000
D Seocho, Gangnam, Seongdong, Dongdaemun, Seongbuk, Gangbuk ₩90,000 ₩130,000
E Songpa, Gangdong, Gwangjin, Jungnang, Nowon, Dobong ₩95,000 ₩140,000

For a family of four going to Myeongdong (Jung-gu, zone C), ₩85,000 is close to four limousine bus tickets (4 × ₩17,000 = ₩68,000) and saves the walk from the bus stop. For one person it’s five times the bus fare.

If you’d rather book ahead, a private transfer gives you a fixed price and a driver waiting at arrivals. Compare it with the zone fare above before paying more.

Which one should you take?

Pick by situation

  • Solo or couple, carry-on or one case each, staying in Hongdae, Mapo or on Line 2, 5, 6 or 9 → AREX all-stop train
  • Hotel near Seoul Station, or a KTX connection the same day → AREX Express
  • Hotel on a 6001, 6002 or 6015 stop (Myeongdong, Dongdaemun, Jongno) with two big cases → limousine bus
  • Landing after about 22:30 → late-night bus or taxi
  • Three or four people with lots of luggage → international taxi (fixed zone fare) or a large taxi
  • Mobility needs or small children → AREX Express (assigned seats; wheelchair seats are sold at the station counter) or a taxi

Before you leave the arrivals hall, sort out mobile data so you can follow maps on the way in; Korea eSIM vs SIM vs pocket Wi-Fi covers the 24-hour airport counters.

Going back to the airport

The same five options work in reverse, with a few differences:

  • City Airport Terminal at Seoul Station. Express passengers can check in and drop bags at Seoul Station (B2) from 05:20 to 19:00. Check-in closes 3 hours before departure for Terminal 1 flights and 3 hours 20 minutes before for Terminal 2. Participating airlines vary, so check yours.
  • Limousine buses to the airport are first come, first served with no reservations. Pay by cash or transit card (T-money or a Korean postpaid card). Credit cards, the Climate Card and the Discover Seoul Pass aren’t accepted. Tell the driver T1 or T2 when you load your bags.
  • Climate Card holders can ride AREX to the airport if they boarded inside Seoul, since getting off at the airport is allowed.

Common mistakes

  • Getting off at the wrong terminal. Trains and buses reach T1 first, then T2. Check which terminal your airline uses before you go back.
  • Waiting for the express when the all-stop train is about to leave. With express gaps of 30–65 minutes, the all-stop train is often the faster way to Seoul Station.
  • Expecting to tap on at Terminal 2. Seoul-bound limousine buses there need a ticket from the B1 booth or machine.
  • Paying a taxi more than meter plus tolls. International taxi zone fares already include tolls.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way from Incheon Airport to Seoul?
The AREX all-stop train. With a T-money or other transit card it costs ₩4,750 from Terminal 1 to Seoul Station and ₩5,350 from Terminal 2; a single-journey ticket adds ₩100 plus a ₩500 deposit you get back at your destination. It takes about 59 minutes from T1 and 66 minutes from T2.
Is the AREX Express worth ₩13,000?
Only if your hotel is near Seoul Station or you value a guaranteed seat and luggage space. It saves about 16 minutes against the all-stop train and goes only to Seoul Station. If you are staying in Hongdae, Gongdeok or near Gimpo Airport, the all-stop train stops closer to you for about a third of the price.
Can I use the Climate Card from Incheon Airport?
No. Seoul's Climate Card short-term pass lets you get off at the airport if you boarded inside Seoul, but you cannot board at the airport with it. It also isn't accepted on airport buses. Use T-money for the ride into the city.
What if my flight lands after the last train?
The last AREX Express leaves Terminal 1 at 22:48. After the trains stop, late-night buses N6000, N6002, N6701 and N6703 leave Terminal 1 from about 23:40 until 04:50 for ₩17,000–18,000, or you can take a taxi. Seoul taxi meters add 20–40% between 22:00 and 04:00.
Is there a KTX train from Incheon Airport?
No. KTX service to Incheon Airport ended in 2018. Take AREX to Seoul Station (both the express and the all-stop train end there) and change to KTX in the same building.
Can I pay for the airport bus with a credit card?
Buy a ticket at the airport bus ticket booth or machine before boarding; Seoul-bound buses at Terminal 2 require one. On the way back to the airport, Airport Limousine buses take cash or a transit card (T-money or a Korean postpaid card) only, not credit cards or the Climate Card.
