About this section
Busan and Fukuoka are close enough that many travellers combine Korea and Japan in one trip. The two cities are linked by ferries across the Korea Strait and by short flights, which makes a “Seoul–Busan–Fukuoka” or reverse route easy to plan.
Ferry or plane? Ferries leave from Busan Port International Passenger Terminal and arrive at Hakata Port in Fukuoka. Flights from Gimhae Airport are shorter in the air but involve airport transfers on both ends, so total door-to-door time is closer than it looks. Ferry schedules and operators change, and sea conditions can cancel sailings, so always check the operator’s current timetable.
Border basics. Each country has its own entry rules. Check whether you need a K-ETA or visa for Korea and the current entry requirements for Japan, and keep both sets of documents handy.
Planning tips. Busan’s port, KTX station and Nampo-dong area are close together, which makes Busan the natural hinge of a two-country trip. See Busan for where to stay and how to book KTX tickets for the Seoul–Busan leg.
Guides on Busan–Fukuoka routes, costs and combined itineraries will be published here with sources and a facts-checked date.
