For a first 10 days in Korea, sleep 4 nights in Seoul, 2 in Gyeongju and 3 in Busan, linked by KTX: rail costs about ₩135,000 per adult and sightseeing tickets under ₩30,000, because most Gyeongju and Busan sights are free. Fares and hours checked 7 Oct 2026.

| Flying in and out of Incheon (US, UK, Australia, Canada, India) | Seoul 4 nights → Gyeongju 2 → Busan 3, then KTX back to Seoul Station and AREX to the airport on day 10. |
| From Singapore or the Philippines | Book an open-jaw ticket: into Incheon, home from Busan Gimhae, and spend the saved half-day on the coast. |
| Your Seoul day 2 falls on a Tuesday | Swap days 2 and 3: Gyeongbokgung closes on Tuesdays, Changdeokgung on Mondays. |
| You'd rather see Jeju | Drop Gyeongju, cut Busan to 2 nights and fly Busan–Jeju for 3 nights. |
Key takeaways
- Split the nights 4 Seoul, 2 Gyeongju, 3 Busan; each move is a KTX ride of roughly 2 hours or less.
- Bulguksa, Seokguram, Gamcheon Culture Village and Haedong Yonggungsa are all free to enter.
- Seoul–Busan KTX costs ₩54,400 since the 1 Sep 2026 fare cut; Korail sells tickets two months ahead.
- Skip the Korail Pass on this route: three rail legs cost less than the 3-day pass at ₩186,000.
- Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond stays open to 22:00, so save it for your first Gyeongju evening.

Who is this plan for?
It’s for a first-timer from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia or India who has ten days, is planning on a laptop or phone a few weeks out, and has to decide how to split the nights between cities, and which airport to leave from. Everything below follows that decision.
- Take this plan if you want Seoul’s palaces and neighbourhoods, one place that feels genuinely historic, and a few days by the sea.
- Pick a different plan if Seoul is all you want to see: our Seoul 7-day itinerary goes deeper and adds a Suwon day trip. If you’re torn between Busan and an island, read whether Jeju is worth it first.
What does the trip look like day by day?

The table is ordered so that you never change hotel two days running, and every travel day starts after breakfast.
Why 4, 2 and 3 nights?
- Seoul gets four nights because your first evening is lost to the flight, and the palaces close on different days (Gyeongbokgung on Tuesdays, Changdeokgung on Mondays). Four nights leave room to shuffle around them.
- Gyeongju gets two nights because its best sight, Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, is a night visit, and Bulguksa and Seokguram need a full morning. As a day trip from Busan you’d miss the first and rush the second.
- Busan gets three nights because it’s spread out: the temple and Haeundae are in the north-east, Gamcheon and the markets in the south-west, roughly an hour apart by public transport.
Day 1: Arrival (Incheon to Seoul)
- Land at Incheon — the AREX Express reaches Seoul Station in 43 minutes from Terminal 1 (₩13,000); the all-stop train takes 59 minutes for ₩4,750 by card. Our Incheon airport guide covers late landings and bus routes.
- Check in near Seoul Station, Myeongdong or Jongno — these keep day 5’s train ride short.
- Evening walk — Myeongdong’s street food, or the Namsan cable car up to N Seoul Tower if you land early.
Before you fly, set up a data plan and a transit card: our guides to eSIM vs SIM vs pocket Wi-Fi and T-money vs WOWPASS vs the Climate Card take five minutes each.
Day 2: Palaces and old Seoul (Jongno)
- 09:00–11:30 Gyeongbokgung — ₩3,000, or ₩6,000 for the five-site integrated ticket. Closed Tuesdays; in October it’s open 09:00–18:00 with last entry at 17:00.
- 11:30–12:30 Bukchon Hanok Village — 10 minutes on foot. Visitors are only allowed in the red zone 10:00–17:00, with fines of ₩100,000 outside those hours.
- 13:30–16:00 Changdeokgung and the Secret Garden — closed Mondays. The garden tour is ₩5,000 extra, and tickets go online six days ahead at 10:00.
- 16:00–18:00 Insadong and Ikseon-dong — tea houses and craft shops, 10 minutes’ walk.
- Dinner at Gwangjang Market — two subway stops east. If ordering is a worry, our Korean restaurant ordering guide covers menus, kiosks and table bells.
Day 3: Museums and the river (Yongsan, Hongdae)
- 10:00–13:00 National Museum of Korea — free permanent galleries, open until 21:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
- Afternoon by the Han River — Banpo or Yeouido Hangang Park; rent a bike or simply sit by the water.
- Evening in Hongdae or Seongsu — Hongdae for street performers and late food, Seongsu for cafés and pop-up stores.
Day 4: DMZ or Gangnam
The usual way for foreign visitors to see the Demilitarized Zone is an organised day tour from central Seoul; bring your passport, as tours check it. If border history doesn’t appeal, spend the day in Gangnam: COEX’s Starfield Library, Bongeunsa temple across the road, and the Lotte World Tower observation deck at sunset.
Day 5: Seoul to Gyeongju (tombs, Cheomseongdae, Wolji Pond)
- Morning KTX from Seoul Station to Gyeongju Station — the station was called Singyeongju until it was renamed, so older blogs use that name. Fastest trains take about 2 hours 15 minutes.
- Drop bags in central Gyeongju — the KTX station is outside town. Lonely Planet lists bus 700 from the station via the express bus terminal and Cheonmachong to Bulguksa; check the live route on Naver Map, or take a taxi.
- 14:00–15:30 Daereungwon tomb park — free to walk; ₩3,000 to step inside Cheonmachong tomb (open to 21:30).
- 15:30–17:30 Cheomseongdae, Gyerim forest and Woljeonggyo bridge — all free and within walking distance.
- From sunset: Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond — ₩3,000, open 09:00–22:00 with last admission at 21:30. The reflections are the reason to come after dark.
Day 6: Bulguksa and Seokguram (south-east Gyeongju)
- 09:00–11:00 Bulguksa — free, open daily 09:00–18:00 with last entry at 17:00. Go at opening to beat tour coaches.
- 11:00–12:30 Seokguram grotto — free, up the mountain road by bus or taxi. Closes at 17:30 in October and at 17:00 from November to January.
- 14:30–17:00 National Gyeongju Museum — free, 10:00–18:00 (to 20:00 on Saturdays from March to October). Closed on the second Monday of March, June, September and December.
- Evening in Hwangnidan-gil — the hanok café street next to the tomb park.
Day 7: Gyeongju to Busan (Gamcheon, Jagalchi, Nampo)
- Morning KTX, Gyeongju to Busan Station — 28–35 minutes, ₩10,100 for an adult seat, with 32 trains a day (first 07:16, last 23:12, per the 7–13 Oct 2026 timetable).
- Leave bags at your hotel — see where to stay in Busan for Haeundae, Seomyeon or Nampo.
- 13:00–15:30 Gamcheon Culture Village — free; the information centre opens 09:00–18:00 from March to October and 09:00–17:00 from November to February.
- 16:00–19:00 Jagalchi Fish Market, BIFF Square and Gukje Market — dinner on raw fish upstairs at Jagalchi or street snacks in Nampo.
Day 8: The east coast (Gijang, Haeundae)
- 08:00–10:00 Haedong Yonggungsa — a seaside temple, free, open 04:30–19:20 (last admission 18:50). It’s busiest late morning.
- 11:00–13:00 Blueline Park — the beach train runs along the old coastal railway from Mipo (Haeundae) to Songjeong: ₩10,000 for one ride from Mipo or Songjeong, ₩16,000 for all stations. The elevated Sky Capsule costs ₩50,000 for a two-seat car.
- Afternoon at Haeundae Beach and Dongbaekseom island walk.
- Evening in Gwangalli — on Saturdays a drone show runs over the beach at 19:00 and 21:00 from October to February.
Day 9: Your free day (Busan)
Use it for whatever you missed, or for something slower: Taejongdae’s cliffs, a jjimjilbang spa, or the Huinnyeoul culture village. If you’re in Busan on Saturday 7 November 2026, the Busan Fireworks Festival runs 19:00–20:00 over Gwangalli Beach — book a room early.
Day 10: Busan to the airport
- If you fly from Incheon: take a morning KTX to Seoul Station (₩54,400, about 2½ hours), then the AREX Express (₩13,000, 43–51 minutes). Allow at least 5 hours from Busan to your check-in desk.
- If you fly from Gimhae: the airport limousine to Seomyeon is ₩6,000 and to Haeundae ₩9,500, or take the light rail from Sasang (6 minutes).
Which airport should you fly home from?
Where to end a 10-day Korea trip, by home market (Gimhae 2025–26 schedule, checked 7 Oct 2026)
| You’re flying to | Direct from Busan Gimhae? | Best plan |
|---|---|---|
| Singapore | Yes | Open-jaw: into Incheon, out of Gimhae |
| Philippines | Yes, four routes | Open-jaw if your airport is served |
| Malaysia | Kota Kinabalu only | Kuala Lumpur: usually back via Incheon |
| US, Canada, UK, Australia, India | No | KTX back to Seoul, fly from Incheon |
An open-jaw ticket saves the 2½-hour train back and a half-day; it’s worth pricing for Singapore and Philippine travellers, while long-haul readers almost always end in Seoul.
Entry rules differ too. US, UK, Canadian, Australian and Singaporean passport holders are exempt from the K-ETA until 31 December 2026; Malaysians need a K-ETA, and individual travellers from India and the Philippines need a visa. Check the official K-ETA portal for your passport before you book.
What if it rains or you want a different mix?
- Rain in Seoul: swap day 3 to the wet day; the National Museum takes a whole afternoon.
- Rain in Busan: Day 9 becomes the backup day. Shift the coast walk there and spend the wet day in markets and the spa.
- One day more: add a third Gyeongju night, or a day trip from Seoul (Suwon’s fortress is in the Seoul 7-day plan).
- Three weeks instead of ten days: our 3-week itinerary keeps this Seoul–Gyeongju–Busan core and adds Andong’s Hahoe Folk Village, four nights on Jeju and a Jeonju day trip.
- One day less: cut day 4 in Seoul.
- Jeju instead of Gyeongju: drop Gyeongju, cut Busan to two nights and fly to Jeju for three; our Jeju 3-day itinerary fits straight in.
- Autumn: foliage peaks later in the south, so Seoul’s colour may be fading while Gyeongju’s is at its best; see our autumn foliage guide and weather by month.

Conversions use the ECB rate of 5 Oct 2026 (US$1 = ₩1,343.98). A lean backpacker day in Seoul runs about ₩67,500 including a capsule bed, per our Korea on a budget guide.
Is the Korail Pass worth it? No: the 3-day pass is ₩186,000 and the three legs above total about ₩109,000. Our Korail Pass verdict shows the maths for other routes.

Questions people ask
- Is 10 days enough for Korea?
- Yes for a first trip that covers Seoul, Gyeongju and Busan without rushing. You get three full sightseeing days in Seoul, a day and a half in Gyeongju and two and a half in Busan. Adding Jeju means dropping Gyeongju or trimming Seoul.
- Should I get a Korail Pass for 10 days?
- Not for this route. The three rail legs (Seoul–Gyeongju, Gyeongju–Busan, Busan–Seoul) cost roughly ₩110,000 at normal fares, while a 3-day Korail Pass is ₩186,000. The pass only wins if you add more long rides, such as a day trip to Gangneung or Jeonju.
- Do I need a car in Gyeongju?
- No. The tomb park, Cheomseongdae, Woljeonggyo and Donggung and Wolji are within walking distance of each other in the centre, and buses or a taxi cover Bulguksa and Seokguram. Many visitors also rent bicycles for the flat central area.
- Can I fly home from Busan instead of Seoul?
- Only from some markets. Busan Gimhae's 2025–26 schedule lists direct flights to Singapore, four Philippine airports and Kota Kinabalu, but none to Australia, India, the UK or North America. Everyone else usually takes the KTX back to Seoul and connects at Incheon.
- What is the best month for this itinerary?
- Mid-October to mid-November and April. Autumn colour reaches Gyeongju and Busan later than Seoul, so a late-October trip often catches both. July and August are hot and humid with monsoon rain, and January is cold but clear.
Next in your trip
- Book the three KTX legs — Weekend trains out of Seoul sell out first; sales open two months ahead.
- Plan your arrival night — AREX, limousine bus or taxi, by landing time.
- Pick your Busan base — Haeundae, Seomyeon or Nampo for the last three nights.
